Redcliff Municipality empowers girl child, donates Sanitary Pads to Primary Schools

The Municipality of Redcliff, through its Gender Committee, today donated sanitary pads to six primary schools as a way of empowering the girl child. The Council Gender Committee, made up of Senior and Junior Female Councillors along with members of management, visited the schools and distributed over 800 sanitary pads.

The beneficiary schools include Redcliff, R.J. Davies, Torwood, Rutendo, George Hill, and Mafidhi Mnangagwa Primary Schools.

The initiative is aimed at empowering the girl child, who often bears the brunt of socio-economic challenges. Council indicated that similar donations will be extended to secondary schools when the third term begins.

During the handovers, councillors also educated the learners on the proper use and disposal of sanitary pads—a message that was warmly received by the girls.

Junior Councillor Glory Phiri took the opportunity to urge residents and learners to report cases where children, especially those living with disabilities, are being denied their rights or hidden away in homes.
